Here are 10 tips to help your new furry friend settle in for the first time.

1. Exercise (especially in the morning)

2. Consistent discipline

3. Affection

4. Clean, fresh water

5. Clean bedding

6. Yearly vet checks

7. Grooming (nails clipped, bath, etc.)

8. Immunizations

9. Chipped and/or dog tags

10. Be very honest with yourself as to why you’re adopting a dog. Spend some time with the dog at the shelter before taking him home.
